The annual all-sports banquet in honor of the athletes of the Mount Ayr high school will be held April 7 in the
school's gymnasium. The principal speaker will be Frank (Bucky) O'CONNOR, head basketball coach at the State
University of Iowa, who has piloted [the] Hawkeyes to an amazing three-year mark of 48 wins and 18 losses.
In appreciation of 40 years of faithful and conscientious service as a member of the school board of Ahtens No. 2,
South Creek school, C. A. MOSBARGER of Kellerton will be honored at a co-operative dinner.
John McFARLAND was elected president of the board of education of the independent school district of Mount Ayr at a
reorganizaton meeting held recently. He succeeds Mrs. Herman FENNEMA.
Wendall H. CASKEY, who recently tendered his resignation as local manager of the Hawkeye Lumber Company, effective
April 15, has accepted the position of manager of the Robinson Lumber Company at Sikeston, MO. He last week sold his
residence property in northwest Mount Ayr to F. E. BOYCE.
Verdon PAYNE, county extension director, will serve as Chairman for the county-wide X-ray survey, to be held
in the near future. The service offers a chest X-ray without charge for all adults and all students in the seventh
grade and above. The expenses of the service are defrayed by the Ringgold County Tuberculosis and Health Association
and the State Department of Health.
Loren MILLER of Diagonal exhibited the grand champion market pig at the first annual Creston 4-H Spring Market Swine
Show held March 13 at the SHIELDS sale barn in Creston. The champion was an outstanding 195-pound Berkshire barrow.
