Ernest BASTOW of Tingley was elected chairman of the board of supervisors. He had been serving as acting chairman since
the death of D. L. SMITHSON on January 7. Mr. BASTOW is serving his second year of a third term in office. The oath of office
was administered Monday morning to Dick BARNES, who was named Friday to fill the unexpired term of the late Mr. SMITHSON.
The third member of the board is Maurice HANSON of Diagonal, who commenced his first term of office on January 2.
The Mount Ayr
bowlers returned to the winning rail Sunday when they won four out of six games from Bedford in South Central Iowa Traveling
League matches bowled on the Bedford lanes. Bob ROE paced the local team with 1,050 pins for the six games and had single
games of 213 and 219. Jack HARTMAN was second high with 1,001. Keith COLE, Bill MONAGHAN and Lyle DULANY also bowled for
Mount Ayr.
Officers and directors of the Security State Bank in Mount Ayr were re-elected at the annual meeting held
Wednesday. Officers are H. M. ROSS, president; Royce DAVIS, vice president; Ray J. JAYNE, cashier, and Doris HANNON,
assistant cashier. Directors are E. E. CARR, Royce DAVIS, Billie FINCH, H. M. ROSS and L. W. ROSS. Other employees of
the bank are Mrs. Jim MARKLEY, Mrs. Kenneth ANDREWS, Mrs. Theron JOHNSON and Mrs. Dennis DRAKE.
Two men escaped serious
injury in a two-car collision, which happened Thursday at approximately 5:45 p.m., four and one-half miles south and one
mile west of Kellerton. David W. RAINEY of Kellerton, who was driving south in a 1951 Dodge pickup, and Shannon PERKINS of
Rodman, driver of a 1961 Ford headed north, collided at the crest of a hill on a snow-plowed road.
Eighty-five 4-H members
will receive achievement medals at the annual 4-H achievement program scheduled for Saturday afternoon, Jan. 20, in the
schoolhouse auditorium in Mount Ayr. Lyle FARIS and Barbara SACKETT, county presidents, will preside at the meeting.
Presentations will be made by Mrs. Frank HORNE and Maurice HANSON, chairman of the 4-H committees, who selected the
members for recognition of their outstanding 4-H club work during the 1960-1961 club year.
In spite of snow, cold weather
and drifted roads, 114 persons attended the Mount Ayr Community high school's second annual college, technical and trade
school night held Monday of last week. The number included 41 students, 43 parents and 30 representatives of colleges,
trade and technical schools, the armed services and Iowa Highway Patrol.
