Duaine KNAPP, 32 years of age, was fatally injured Monday afternoon while operating a caterpillar tractor on his farm,
two miles southeast of Redding. Mr. KNAPP, working alone, was using the tractor to push over trees when one fell on
him and killed him instantly. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ariel KNAPP of Redding, in which vicinity he
spent his entire life. Survivors include his widow, Merilee; four children, David, Denny, Timothy and Rebecca; three
brothers, Gifford, Richard, Merton, and a sister, Mrs. Melba SAVILLE, all of Redding.
Wayne A. OVERHOLTZER, rural mail carrier at Tingley, was presented an award Friday morning for having driven his
route for a period of 30 years without an accident which involved another vehicle. Because of the safe driving record
established by Mr. OVERHOLTZER, postmaster Donald R. KINNE has been advised that the post office at Tingley is included
among a group of offices being considered for an award for outstanding safety records.
The Mount Ayr Raiderettes came back strong during the last half of their Saturday night battle with the Osceola
girls before losing in two overtimes, 79-77. In the firest overtime, each team tallied seven points to make the
score read 77-77. In the sudden-death overtime, Osceola grabbed the victory and a real thriller from the scrappy Mount Ayr
sextet, 79-77 with Karen SWAN dumping the winning point.
The Mount Ayr Junior Raiders finished the season undefeated as they made it eight straight wins with 51-33 and 37-23 victories
Saturday over Bedford.
