At a recent meeting of the school board, the same corps of teachers was reelected for the coming year: Prof. W. H. Fasold, superintendent; N. E. Schupback, principal; and the Misses Jameson, Campbell, Ogden, Owen, Merritt, Hart, Marschall, Snedaker, Welch, Maxwell, Porter, Reynard, Carson, Lynch, Curtis and Beswick.
In the county high school declamatory contest held Friday in the Mount Ayr high school auditorium winners were May Peppmeier, of Shannon City, first; and Halcoyn Beggs, of Kellerton, second. Winners in the spelling constes were Dorothy Main, Liberty township No. 6, first; Mary Campbell, Washington No. 6 [Edgewood School], second; and Fern Miller, Rice township No. 1 [Silver Point School], third. Mount Ayr won first in the high school and grade exhibits and Rice No. 1 [Silver Point School], taught by Nellie Claver, won first place on exhibits for rural schools.
The cast of characters for the "Singin' Skewl" to be given Friday night in the Methodist church will include Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Smith, Mrs. Jack Mills, Clarence Duncan, Chester Mallory, Stella Wright, Cloud Drake, Mary Maschall, Edna Reynard, Frank Keating, Donald Ross, Warren Hughes, Blanche Long, M. E. Freeland, Blanche Dowling, Roy Wright, Lois Adams, Mrs. C. N. Rhoades, Marie Goodwin, Fern Gleason, Mrs. Glenn Robinson, Caryl Williams, Nellie Chance, Reba Roberts, Marie Moore, Julia Reger, Mrs. E. Wall and Vesta Merritt.
April 23 had been set apart as the day for the great patriotic demonstration in Mount Ayr. A large flag to be placed on the courthouse and dedicated and a parade in which pupils of the Mount Ayr schools will participate, will be features of the day. Owners of automobiles are asked to decorate their cars and join in the parade. Music will be furnished by the Mount Ayr concert band.
BLOCKTON - E. B. Williams, who has been manager of the Blockton Light and Power Company, and family will move to Mount Ayr, where he will become manager of the plant.
DIAGONAL - The school board has elected a part of the teachers for the coming year - Superintendent Hightower; Leone Stringham, grammar room; Neva M. Bailey, intermediate; and Verla Dean Barton, second primary.
BIRTHS
KELLERTON - Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Davis are rejoicing over the arrival of a fine baby girl on April 11.
MALOY - Mr. and Mrs. John Lemley are the proud parents of a baby boy, born April 7.
