The responsibilities of the U.S. Marshall Service were explained by deputy U.S. Marshall George Williamson of
Des Moines as part of the 46th anniversary celebration of the Mount Ayr Lions Club here June 10. The celebration
also included a steak dinner, music by the Mount Ayr Community high school swing choir and presentation of awards.
Members honored for over 40 years as part of the club were Elmo ROE, 42 years service; Jack ELLIOTT, 42 years; and LBanks
WILSON, 41 years.
The town of Maloy has a new city government after elections held there Tuesday, Brian TERRELL was named mayor and
council members elected were Howard JACKSON, Larry OVERHOLSER, Tory SHAY and Roger D. TODD.
Angie MAIN, daughter of Virginia MAIN, was married to Todd GLENDENNING, son of Lloyd and LaVerne GLENDENNING,
in a 4:30 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 1993 double-ring ceremony.
Mae GRAVETT, a long time resident of Mount Ayr, celebrated her 100th birthday anniversary June 2 with her daughter,
Deloris BEAR, and family in Lake Saint Louis, MO.
Winning duo in the women's golf tournament at the Mount Ayr Gold and Country Club June 8 was the mother-daughter
combination of Julianne DAUGHTON of Mount Ayr and Jan DeMOTT of Bedford. They shot a 73 on the 18-hole route.
A ribbon cutting marking the opening of the new Mount Ayr Mini-Storage facility along Highway 2 and 169 in Mount
Ayr was held this week. The rental facility offers three sizes of rental storage space. Amy STILL helps manage
the facility for owner Dr. Mack SICKELS.
The Regular Baptist Church in Mount Ayr has a new pastor. The Rev. Charles HAWKINS began serving the church Sunday,
June 6. HAWKINS has pastored churches in Washington, Algona and Webster City.
A total of 42 people were part of the cast and crew of "Hurry On Down," the musical story of Zacchaeus, presented by
the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Mount Ayr Sunday. Taking lead roles were Sam JACKEL of
Lamoni as Zacchaeus and Ron SMITH of Lamoni as Jesus. Sara ROLFE directed the musical.
MAC'S Raider baseball team went 1-2 in their first Pride of Iowa Conference baseball action. In the 6-4 victory
against Wayne, Lafe DUKES was the winning pitcher and picking up a hit were Shannon BARNES, Ryan MURPHY, Ethan
SICKELS, Andy DUGAN and Cory GILES.
The Raiderette softball team had two loop victories during the week. A fine pitching performance by Tara GROVES against
Southeast Warren gave the team a victory of 9-1. Brandi LININGER had two doubles, knocking in two RBIs.
