Open house was held Saturdy for the addition and remodeling done to the Mount Ayr Volunteer Fire Department buildings.
In the new 3,500 square foot addition to the building are located a meeting room, training area, storage for one
pumper truck, scuba equipment storage and antique machinery storage. Portions of the old building were remodeled
for more vehicle storage. A good crowd was on hand for the fund-raising supper that went with the open house.
There will be a letter writing campaign for funds and an annual dance in October to try to help raise the additional
funds needed for the project. Before the open house, an additional $22,000 was still needed.
Work is underway on the construction of the dam for the lake at the Fogle Recreation Area, just west of Diagonal.
The $397,672 project is expected to be completed by November 30 this year. T.S. Contractors, Inc. of Saint Jospeh, MO
will be doing the work on the project. The wet spring had delayed the earth moving work.
The wild rose is the State of Iowa flower and the state flower has been blooming profusely in Ringgold county this
summer. This pale pink flower with its yellow stamens inthe center was found along a county roadside earlier this
summer. The wild rose was named the official state flower in 1897. It was chosen for the honor because the wild rose
was one of the decorations used on the silver service which the state presented to the battleship USS Iowa
the same year.
