RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, November 16, 1961

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

The new Kellerton post office building, construction of which was recently completed by Quentin ANDERSON of Ellston, will be dedicated Saturday, December 2, according to James DAUGHTON, postmaster.

At a special election held Wednesday of last week, the voters of Benton unanimously favored the granting of a 45-year franchise to the Iowa State Telephone Corporation. Twenty-seven ballots were cast. Franchises have been granted to the company in recent elections by the voters in Shannon City, Tingley, Ellston and Kellerton.

The Mount Ayr residence property and two lots of Alice BASTOW was sold Saturday at public auction to Paul SURFACE of Liberty township for $6,775. Dennis OWENS and O. B. and Raymond HUTCHINSON were the auctioneers and Mr. and Mrs. Kermit MILLER served as clerks.

Mary Sue BASTOW was announced as winner of the top home economics 4-H record book during the KSIB 4-H Record Book Award Program held Saturday in Creston. Ringgold county's other entry in the contest, Lyle FARIS, also received a medal. They are the daughter and son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert BASTOW and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur FARIS of Mount Ayr.

On Veterans Day the Raiders made their ninth victim the Bedford Bulldogs, 27-0, to remain in the elite football class of the state with an undefeated season. It was the sixth time in Raider history that a football team has accomplished the feat. Their defense was second only to the 1931-32 Raiders, who held their foes to a meager six points.
