A Mount Ayr Community high school team placed ninth and received honorable mention in the National Business Professionals
of America conference in Phoenix, AZ May 1-5. The presentation management eam of Tracy STEWART, Jill DENNEY, Julie
COOPER and Brooke MITCHELL placed ninth out of 92 teams from across the nation. Other MACHS students participating in contests
included Christi SMITH, Nicole MUPRHY, Renda SMITH. MACHS BPA advisor March BUDACH accompanied the students to the national
convention.
Former Mount Ayr Community high school track standout Chip BRUNDAGE is having a good track season at Simpson College in
Indianola, where he is a freshman. At a recent meet, BRUNDAGE tossed the discus 165'8" to set a new school record and
automatically qualified himself for the NCAA Division III national track meet in Naperville, IL next week.
Mushroom hunting has been in full swing in Ringgold county in the past few weeks and a very large one was brought to the
Record-News office Friday. Karl McGAHUEY of Mount Ayr found a 12-inch long morrel mushroom while hunting in
Ringgold county -- as close to a location as would be given. Mushroomhunters keep their prime hunting spots secret.
Ringgold County Farm BUreau president Richard DERSCHEID has made a pledge to eat more beef and is encouraging all
consumers to do the same. "In Iowa, we estimate that approximately 40,000 Farm Bureau members are involved in the beef
industry as feeders or cow-calf operators," DERSCHEID said. "And, as grain producers, we have a stake in maintaing a viable
beef industry in Iowa."
Hy-Vee Food Stores has presented a new sign for the building in Beaconsfield where the first Hy-Vee store was started
66 years ago by David VREDENBURG and Charles HYDE.
