Jack GOODALE, a member of the Maloy Shamrocks 4-H Club, showed the grand champion baby beef, a 935-pound Hereford, in the
junior livestock show at the Ringgold County Fair. Jack will show his champion at the Iowa State Fair. David LYNCH, also a
member of the Maloy Shamrocks, had the reserve champion baby beef at the county fair with his 760-pound Shorthorn. He will
show the animal at the Iowa State Fair and the International Livestock Show at Saint Joseph, MO.
In the market swine division, Allan TRIGGS showed the champion market barrow, a 215-pound animal, and the reserve champion
was shown by Monte AKERS. The champion Hampshire gilt and boar were also shown by TRIGGS.
Leo V. MORGAN of Monroe township won the sorrel colt, which was presented as a gate prize during the Ringgold County Fair.
George JACKSON and the clown with the rodeo conducted the drawing the second night of the rodeo and the number was read to
the audience by John D. WARIN, president of the fair board.
Milt HENDERSON, area extension 4-H leader, went yesterday to Des Moines, where he will serve as superintendent of 4-H
swine at the Iowa State Fair. He will be assisted by R. C. RUSH of Kellerton. HENDERSON will also serve as a judge of
the 4-H demonstration program on August 21 and 22.
Mrs. Flora HARROUN suffered a fracture of her left hip Saturday in a fall in her home in Clearfield and was taken to the
Greater Community Hospital in Creston, where she remains a patient. Mrs. HARROUN, mother of Billy HARROUN, 82, former
clerk of the town of Mount Ayr, with whom she lives in Clearfield, will observe her 102nd birthday anniversary Friday.
Mary Sue BASTOW has been nominated by the Ringgold County Swine Producers Association as its candidate for the title of
"Pork Queen of Iowa," announcement of which has been made by Jack ELLIOTT of Benton, president of the county organization.
Miss BASTOW will go August 20 to the statehouse in Des Moines where she and representatives of each swine producers
association in Iowa will be judged.
Forty-two baby beeves, 23 hogs an 47 lambs were sold at the second annual 4-H sale held last week in conjunction with the
Ringgold County Fair. The total consideration for the 112 animals was $11,828.20.
