The annual flower show of the Mount Ayr Federated Garden Club held Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist Church dining
parlors attracted 137 entries. Mrs. C. D. THOMPSON served as chairman of the flower show committee and entries in the
show were judged by Mrs. John JOHNSON of Greenfield. Mrs. JOHNSON was accompanied to Mount Ayr by Mrs. John YOUNG of
Afton and her sister, Mrs. Emma SECOND of Phoenix, AZ.
John IRVING of Mount Ayr, president of the Southwestern Federated Power Cooperative of Creston and secretary-treasurer
of Rideta Electric Cooperative, has been named a member of the board of directors of the recently established Basin
Electric Power Cooperative with headquarters in Columbus, ND.
Marcia FENNEMA of this city was one of 79 students graduated Friday with special honors during commencement exercises
of the State University of Iowa, Iowa City. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman FENNEMA of this city, she is a
graduate of the Mount Ayr high school.
Ringgold county's 16-girl 4-H delegation, accompanied by two leaders, Mrs. Russell SHIELDS and Mrs. Burl SACKETT,
returned Friday from Iowa State University, Ames, where they had taken part in a variety of activities held in
conjunction with the 37th annual state girls 4-H convention. Those from Ringgold county who attended were Joyce
DRIFTMIER and Alice WALTERS, Beaconsfield; Marie ANGUS, Coleen LONG, Marie EURITT and Connie PERLENFEIN, Mount Ayr; Vicki
WACKERNAGLE, Blockton; Patricia WERNER and Joan STEPHENS, Diagonal; Jennie Jean LEONARD, Clearfield; Norma WALLACE,
Benton; Charlotte COMBS and Alice MINTHORN, Kellerton, and Karen REASONER, Tingley. Also, Barbara SACKETT, who
represented Ringgold county as 4-H county president, and Shirley GOINS of Diagonal, state vice-president, who attended
as a state officer.
Fourteen friend and neighbors of W. H. (Mike) MORGAN cultivated approximately 60 acres of corn and soybeans Saturday
afternoon at the MORGAN farm, south of Mount Ayr, as a "good neighbor" deed. Mr. MORGAN is hospitalized in Des Moines
following surgery on May 23. Men who assisted were W. E. KELLEY, Raymond DRAKE, Jerry WALTER, Chuck McGEHEE, Cliff
NICHOLS, Harold HUMBERT, Lyndon NICHOLS, J. T. NICHOLS, Warren TERWILLIGER, Ralph BRAMMER, Bill RINEHART, Raymond BUCK,
Junior JAMES and Ora MILLER. Roy SWARTZ provided pop, ice for which was furnished by the Mount Ayr Mill and Feed Company.
Mr. and Mrs. Wendell SOLLARS of Clearfield are the proud parents of a daughter, Sherry Lynn, born June 4. Two
five-generation families are included among Sherry Lynn's 14 living grandparents.
The grand opening of the BASTOW Feed and Grain (elevator) will be held Saturday, June 17.
