Ayr Dayes was celebrated in Mount Ayr again this weekend with the sesquicentennial of the community added to the annual
Scottish heritage and fall celebration activities. Tracee KNAPP and Karen BENDER co-chaired the event.
Over 400 people attended Rideta's annual meeting held on September 7. Three board members were elected. Named to three-year
terms on the cooperative board of directors were Dale WALKUP from district 1C, Alan TAYLOR from district 1D and Carroll
BAKER from district 2A.
A celebrity played golf on the Sun Valley Lake Golf Course on Labor Day. Country-Western singer Roy CLARK, who was
appearing at the Lakeside Casino in Osceola, brought three foursomes from his band and staff to play golf on Labor Day.
There are 24 Mount Ayr Community junior high girls taking part in the junior high volleyball program this fall. There are
10 seventh graders and 14 eighth graders playing with the teams this year for coaches Linda REYNOLDS and Jodie GEIST.
Crowned as royalty for the Ayr Days celebration this year in a contest sponsored by Ladies Unlimited were Ayr Days
Lad Harley HAMILTON and Ayr Days Lassie Alyssa ADAMS.
Goats and other small animals were petted as a part
of the petting zoo held on the north side of the square during the Ayr Days celebration in Mount Ayr Saturday.
There were no surprises when voters went to the polls Tuesday for school elections in three Ringgold cunty area
school district and for the Southwestern Community Collge board of directors. In the Mount Ayr Community school district,
two board seats were up for election. In district #3, incumbent David RICHARDS, who was unopposed, received 77 votes. In
district #4, incumbent Rodney SHIELDS, who was unopposed, received 80 votes. Voters who live in district #$ in the
Diagonal Community district re-elected incumbant Philip MASON to the board. MASON received 10 votes to continue to
serve on the board. Voters who live in director district #6 for Southwestern Community College named Larry GILES
to the board position.
