The famous Canadian Brass quintet takes the spotlight as the final event of Graceland College's Founders' Day
Celebration of Sept. 23-24. The special weekend in Lamoni commemorates the 100th birthday of the college, which opened
for classes on Sept. 17, 1895.
Wanda BURDEN, a DSS case worker of Charleston, SC prompted generosity when she asked a car dealership to consider
donating a car to help a needy family. Burg Chevrolet donated a 1988 Chevrolet Spectrum to the Salvation Army with the
assistance of the Berkeley County Department of Social Services. The car was then given to a family of eight, enabling
better job possibilities and medical acess for the family. BURDEN is the daughter of Wayne and Esther BUTLER of
Mount Ayr.
The Mount Ayr First Baptist Church was founded in 1870 by 10 charter members, six women and four men. Its first
services were held in the Methodist Church under the leadership of Rev. Carey TILBURY. That was 125 years ago and the
current congregation has been celebrating that significant anniversary.
