RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa

Kasey Dredge, Mount Ayr Record-News

Heavy rains over the weekend set some area rivers and creeks out of their banks as water ran off in amounts not seen for a long time. The moisture was welcome, but could do some damage if the water ran off too fast. Junior STEPHENS of near Delphos said that the intake system in his grassland did its work of slowing down the flow of water, where five inches of rain filled the intakes but then drained off more slowly than if the conservation measures has not been in place. STEPHENS has 150 intake structures and nine ponds on his farmland as part of his attempt tokeep the soil on his farm.

There were many activities going on during the Ayr Days celebration to interest different tastes. Rain kept some of the numbers down, but the annual Ayr Days car show drew many people to see the enties. The Ringgold Singers presented a half-hour show of music for an appreciative audience Saturday afternoon. The enthusiasm and energy of the members of the American Legion Post No. 30 drill team from Omaha, NE was contagious.

When faced with a football game in a sea of mud you can either decide to have fun or sink into a puddle of misery. Our Mount Ayr Raiders chose to have fun as they out ran Central Decatur 12-0 in a game finally called before time ran out because of heavy rains.

Mount Ayr Community's Raiderettes came out on the short end of a quadrangular stick when the girls lost matches to Winterset, Bedford and Clarinda here Thursday night.
