Ringgold county's 4-H livestock judging team will participate in the national contest to be held tomorrow (Friday) in
Kansas City, MO as one of the features of the American Royal Livestock Show. The Ringgold county boys, who were
selected during the Iowa State Fair to represent Iowa in the judging constest, will compete against the top teams from
approximately 20 other states. Team members are Dale BICKEL, Bob ALLEN, Randall HANSON, David BARKER and Lyle FARRIS.
Kay JARVIS reigned as queen of the Mount Ayr Community high school's homecoming festivities held Friday night. A
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Owen SPENCER of this city [Mount Ayr], Miss JARVIS is also one of the high school cheerleaders.
Other queen candidates were Barbara WOOD, Judy McGAHUEY, Glee BEAR and Gay Lou FERGUSON.
Fred L. MANNERS, Mount Ayr post office employee, retired September 30, after 35 years and nine months of service.
Three seniors of the Mount Ayr Community high school have been honored for outstanding performance on the National
Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) given last spring. Each student who is endorsed by his school receives a formal
Letter of Commendation signed by his principal and the president of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Vance E.
GEIGER, princiapl, has announced that the commended students are John PETERSEN, William REED and Howard Don SMITH.
