Superintendent Phil BURMEISTER, who has been battling back problems, presented an official letter of
retirement to the school board Monday night, effective June 30, 2001.
A Ringgold county woman was taken by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines following an accident on a
gravel road in the southwest part of Ringgold county Monday afternoon. Sarah M. KING, 20, was in serious
condition at the hospital Tuesday afternoon following the accident.
Race horses owned by Al CLOUGH of Ellston recently won two races at the Prairie Meadows race track in Altoona.
On June 19, Kris S Niece won a 5 1/2 furlong race by three lengths in 1:07.3 to win a purse of $10,140. On June
23, Frisky Nijinsky won a six furlong race by a half a length in 1:13.4 to win a purse of $10,140. Both horses
are trained by Stephen SIMOFF.
A team of Little League players from Tingley took the title of the 2000 summer league tournament held in
Tingley June 10-11. Members of the team included Tyler WHITSON, Ray CREVELING, Brandon WERNER, Tyler
HOSFIELD, Chelsey HOSFIELD, Weston PIERSCHBACHER, Kirk FORD, Wesley CAMPBELL, Colton QUICK and Christian
OVERHOLSER.
