RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, December 13, 1962

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

P. M. Place Stores Company announces the purchase of its 16th store, the Shapland Variety Store in Bedford, of George SHAPLAND. The building, occupied by the store, was also purchased from Mr. SHAPLAND by the Place Realty and Investment Company. Possession will be given January 2 and remodeling of the store will start immediately by the Place Company. Joe N. PLACE of Mount Ayr is secretary of the company.

One Diagonal man was injured and another escaped with only bruises in a one-car auto accident, which happened late Saturday night. The injured man is Harold COVERDELL, 25, owner and occupant of the wrecked 1953 DeSoto, which was driven by Ivan Dellano HAYWORTH, 42 years of age. He remained a patient until Tuesday in the Ringgold County Hospital, convalescing from acute muscle strain of the neck.

No doubt tears where shed by burglars when they peeled a safe early Friday morning at the Kellerton Oil company and found inside a tear gas bomb. Tears were no deterrent to the objective of the thieves, which was to obtain money, and which they did in the amount of approximately $100 in silver and bills. The break-in was discovered about 6:30 a.m. by Ora FUGATE, who, with his brother, Harry, own and operate the station. On the same night or morning, the Leon Country Club and the Voltmaster Battery Company at Corydon were burglarized and about $45 were taken.

The Freddie RINNER family was forced to flee into sub-zero weather Tuesday night when the two-story dwelling they occupied, three miles northwest of Delphos, was completely destroyed by fire between 8:30 and 9 p.m. The dwelling, owned by Everett GEIGER of Des Moines, was located just west of the Charles L. GARRETT farm, where Mr. RINNER has been employed for several years.
