Efforts to financially assist Kay ALLEN of Tingley, who is awaiting a lung transplant, have resulted in over $12,000
being raised, according to latest reports. A benefit held in August provided proceeds of $10,000 and additional
contributions have come from individuals, memorials and the latest benefactor - the Aid Association for Lutherans
(AAL). The AAL gave the maximum amount of matching funds that they are authorized to give, $1,500. Now Kay ALLEN
is waiting for a suitable lung.
Longtime Mount Ayr Community high school athletic director Mark LARSEN was honored as the Southwet Iowa athletic director of
the year at the meeting of the Southwest Iowa Athletic Director's Association in Walnut Wednesday night. LARSEN has served
as a coach and athletic director in the Mount Ayr Community high school for most of his teaching career.
A ribbon cutting was held by the Mount Ayr Chamber of Commerce to welcome the new Blimpie Subs and Salads
restaurant in Mount Ayr. The new restaurant is located at the intersection of Highway 2 and 169 in Mount Ayr.
