RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, June 12, 1980

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

When Republicans from across the nation meet in Detroit this summer to nominate Ronald Reagan as the party's presidential candidate, a Mount Ayr woman will be there as a delegate. Mrs. Mildred ELLIOTT was selected as a delegate from the fifth district to the national convention, possibly the first time a Ringgold county Republican has been elected as a national convention delegate.

The body of John David TULL, 15, was found in a farm pond northeast of Mount Ayr shortly before noon Wednesday, June 4. The farm pond is a quarter of a mile east of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles TULL, three miles north and two and one-half miles east of Mount Ayr. The Mount Ayr volunteer fire department helped in the search for TULL. The family reported that the boy had been missing the evening before. An autopsy was performed and investigation into the death continues pending the results of the autopsy. TULL had just completed his freshman year at Mount Ayr Community high school where he was a member of Future Farmers of America.

Mrs. Les (Shirley) HICKMAN, and her son and daughter, Heath and Heather HICKMAN, left Monday, June 9, for a month's tour of Europe with a United Methodist group headed by a couple from Fayette. The 34 persons on the tour will be camping out as they visit the Netherlands, Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Luxemborg and the British Iles. Their first stop was in Chicago, IL and then they flew on to Amsterdam to begin their sight-seeing in Europe. They return July 8.

The church bell rang in celebration last Wednesday when the congregation of the First Christian Church of Mount Ayr voted to build a new church building on the same site as the present structure. The members voted 81-8 for the proposal recommended by the church board and trustees at a meeting in the Legion Hall. The new church building will replace the one destroyed by fire early this year.
