Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa

A complete rebuilding of their distributing system in Mount Ayr by the Mount Ayr Light and Power company will begin Monday. The voltage will be standardized, making it a 110 instead of 220, the series system of street lighting will be installed and nitrogen lamps will be used.

The sophomore class gave an interesting program Friday in the form of a few scenes from the life of Queen Elizabeth.

Mr. Geist will have his poultry and egg station in a room which is to built in the rear of Whitson & Siple's store.

Postmaster J. A. McNerney authorized the statement that every $5 fee received at the post office in Mount Ayr for an enlistment for the army or navy will be donated to the Red Cross fund. The post office is a recruiting station.

At the contest in the Mount Ayr school last Friday, Esther Fuller, of the fifth grade, proved to be the best speller. She will represent the school in the county contest.

COUNTY SCHOOL NOTES - In the boys' essay contest seven essays were filed. The winners were 1st, Emery Doser, Kellerton; 2nd, Frank Jennings, Beaconsfield; and 3rd Ellis Clough, Kellerton. This entitles Emery a free trip to the state fair in August.

DIAGONAL - Brown Brothers, owners of the City Dray Line, has sold a third interest in their business to J. W. Perdue.

ELLSTON - Mrs. Floyd Boles has been helping at the post office this week. She will take the place of Mrs. Eva Kron as assistant postmistress.

KELLERTON - The junior class of the high school presented a debate Tuesday on the subject, Resolved, that the American Revolution did more for the benefit of humanity than the French Revolution. Members of the team were Ollie Dady and Carroll Miller, affirmative; and the negative was supported by Amy Havely and William Cronin. The judges decided in favor of the negative.

RINGGOLD - School commenced April 4 with Vey Seaton as teacher. She is staying at the Earl Butler home.

BIRTHS

  • A little son came Saturday to gladden the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Graham.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Vern Clouse are the proud parents of twin boys, born Friday.
  • CALIDONIA - Mr. and Mrs. Bert Ingram are rejoicing over the arrival of a new girl.
  • Born Thursday to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Byerly, a son.
  • KNOWLTON - Mr. and Mrs. J. H. McCreary are the proud parents of a ten-pound boy, born March 31.
