Thursday, September 10, 1964

Kasey Dredge, Mount Ayr Record-News

New officers of the boys and girls 4-H clubs were elected during the annual Ringgold County 4-H Conference, held August 31. Officers of the boys organization are: Arthur ALLEN, president; Craig ELLIOTT, vice-president; James McCREARY, secretary - treasurer; and Dan COULSON, historian; and for the girls: Doris ANGUS, president; Ruth NELSON, vice-president; Virgene RYAN, secretary - treasurer; and Marla LIND, historian.

Kenny MARKLEY, 16-year-old Mount Ayr Community High School golfer, shot a 31 on the local course Monday to tie the all-time record. Par is 36 for the course. He tied the record set earlier this year by J.D. TURNER of Lamoni, who is considered one of Iowa's top amateur golfers. Jack ELLIOTT and Neil CHICKEN won the high-low tournament recently completed. They defeated Kenny MARKLEY and Paul HIXSON one up in an extra hole to win the title.

Larry BROWN of Lamoni went last week to Burlington, where Monday he resumed his duties as high school biology teacher.

STUDENT AYR - Phil WEBB was elected vice-president; Mary Jane SMITH, secretary, and Sharyn GILES, treasurer of the Student Council during a meeting last week. Kathy PRENTIS is president of the organization and M.H. OBERMEIR is sponsor.

Charles BLACK, a former student at Mount Ayr Community High School, is the new mathematics instructor here. He graduated from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville with a major in mathematics and general science.
