Lindsay Ricker

An estimated $327 in drugs and approximately $233 in cash were stolen from Mitchell Drug Store in Mount Ayr sometime during the night of July 27-28. Entrance was gained through a hole cut in a side wall, according to investigating officers from the city police department, the Ringgold sheriff's office and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Bob RICKER of Chariton won third place in the national pipe smoking contest held at the Howard Johnson Motel in Des Moines Saturday afternoon. RICKER has competed in Iowa previously but this was his first national contest. He received a trophy and a pipe for his winning. He is a former resident of the Mount Ayr area and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob RICKER of Mount Ayr.

Shirley Lynn HUDSON became the bride of Charles Kelly RICHARDS on June 25 at the home of the bridegroom's aunt, Fern SHEDDRICK in Grant City, MO. Rev. Orville RINEHART of Bethany, MO, uncle of the bridegroom, officiated at the double-ring ceremony. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. L. C. HUDSON of Barnesville, GA and Mr. and Mrs. Charles RICHARDS of Mount Ayr.

Filing closed Thursday for nominations for board of director posts in the three school districts in Ringgold county. In the Mount Ayr Community district, incumbents Bill SMITH, Mount Ayr director district, and Jim JOBE, Tingley director district, will seek re-election to three-year terms. Also filing papers in the Tingley district is Edward A. REYNOLDS of Ellston. In the Diagonal Community school district, James BROWN has filed for the position in director district No. 4 and Mike AUSTIN for director in district No. 2. In the Grand Valley Community school district, Glenn PAYTON has filed for director in district No. 2, the only position to be filled this year.

Age prevailed over youth as Leo (Jocko) HACKER won the Mount Ayr Country Club members men's golf tournament held August 5 and 6. HACKER, who is 65 and didn't start playing until he was 42, shot a 146 over the 36 hole route to win. It was his first club championship in Mount Ayr.

The Mount Ayr and Leon swim teams tied in a meet held Monday night at the Leon pool. Linda HARTMAN coaches the Mount Ayr team and Martha DAILEY LANDPHAIR was the Leon coach. The swim meet score was 24-24 and in the diving portion Leon won 10-5. Mount Ayr's six-person team won one of the two relays.
