Opening bargaining proposal from the Mount Ayr City council to newly unionized city employees was presented at a
bargaining session Thursday with Local No. 55 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers AFL-CIO. The city
council presented the proposal to Don BARROW of the union and city employee Charles WASKE. Named as the team to
represent the city in further negoations were city attorney Dave DeLONG and council members Raymond HENSLEY and
Duane BURCHETT.
Regan MAIN and B. J. POPPE reigned as the homecoming royalty for the Mount Ayr Community high school's annual
homecoming activities over the weekend. MAIN is the daughter of Kelly and Teri MAIN of Mount Ayr. POPPE is the son
of Gene and Nancy POPPE of Mount Ayr.
Ringgold county assessor Scott JOHNSON handed in his resignation effective October 31, 1997. JOHNSON resigned
from his current duties as county assessor to accept a position with Vanguard Appraisals, a company based in Cedar
Rapids. JOHNSON will be a CAMA specialist, responsible for duties such as installing, training, trouble shooting
and providing technical support for appraisal software in Iowa and Missouri.
Jim WERNER of Diagonal has been elected as a delegate to the 114th annual meeting of the American Angus Association
Monday, Nov. 17, in Louisville, KY. WERNER is one of 315 Angus breeders who have been elected by fellow members to
serve as a state representative at the annual meeting.
Merrill PERRY, better known to many in this area as "The Old Band Man," continues to find value in muscial
instruments by conducting a lamp making business. PERRY and his son, David of Anita, began experimenting with instrument
lamp making and started their company, The Lampworks, in the fall of 1996. Son David derived the idea from a
catalog.
