RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, March 09, 1989

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

The odds of a cow giving birth to a set of triplets is one in 107,000 or more, according to a local veterinarian and the odds of all three calves being healthy and surviving is even greater, so when a mother birthed three calves and claimed them February 28 on a Ringgold county farm, it was a once-in-a-long-time event. The calves were born on a farm near Redding, farmed by Don STEPHENS for ELLIOTT Farms of Mount Ayr.

Two Mount Ayr Community high school drill team members - Jamie JONES and Jeanne LAWHEAD - will be participating in the 1989 All-Iowa Honor Drill Team performance this Saturday night, March 11.

Mount Ayr Community's BPA chapter members winning trips to the national convention in Dallas, TX were Tracee HUTCHINSON, Dawn HUFF, Jill TAYLOR, Susan THOMPSON, Jenny SHIELDS, Jody SHIELDS, Shawn HAYSE, Bill THURMAN, Julie SACKETT and Jennifer PEDERSEN.

Blakesburg's goal was to be in the game in the fourth quarter in the sub-state battle with Diagonal's Maroons in Centerville Saturday. They weren't. The Maroons lived up to their expectations by doing what they needed to early and then coasted to a 110-57 win to put them in the state boys basketball tournament.

Diagonal's first round foe in the state Class A boys basketball [tournament] Monday will be Colo-NESCO, a team from Story county where two school districts are in a new sharing program. Colo, where the high school is located, and NESCO, a school district which sent teams to the state tournament in 1984 and 1986, are in a new total sharing program and have put together a boys basketball team with a 22-2 record.

NOTE: In the quarterfinals of Class A, Colo-NESCO scored 65 points vs. Diagonal Maroons' 50 points. ~ Des Moines Register, State High School Boys Basketball Stats & Tournament Results
