The defense took over the spotlight in the trial of brothers, Harold Evans TODD, 31, and Ronnie D. TODD, 26, after the state rested it case last Tuesday afternoon. The two brothers are charged with first degree murder as well as burglary and robbery in the death of their great-aunt, Mrs. Alberta MICKAEL of Mount Ayr on September 22, 1980. The trial has been heard in Winterset before Judge Robert O. FREDERICK, on a change of venue. A third defendant in the case, Charles Loyd TYLER, 34, will be tried at a later date.

The biggest attraction in 100 years took place Saturday in Ellston as that community observed its centennial with a day-long program of special events. Coupled with the Fourth of July holiday, the centennial drew an estimated 3,000 people to the northeast Ringgold county community of 65 persons.

Redding is busy preparing for the fourth annual Redding Frontier Days Saturday and Sunday, July 11-12. The celebration has the theme, "Hillbilly Weekend."

The Mount Ayr Implement Co., owned by Jim and Margi CLARK, will have an open house at their establishment on North Taylor Street Friday to make their grand opening.

The Tingley State Savings Bank will hold an open house at their new banking facility at the corner of Taylor and South Streets Saturday from 12 noon on.

The Mount Ayr Assembly of the Order of Rainbow for Girls will celebrate its 20th anniversary Sunday, July 12, at 2 p.m. in the Masonic Temple. The assembly started in Mount Ayr July 17, 1961.

July 18 and 19 have been designated Tingley and Mount Ayr town days at Worlds of Fun. Through a special program Tingley and Mount Ayr will be eligible to attend the 157-acre theme park in Kansas City, MO with special savings on July 18 or 19.

Mrs. Eva PATRICK of Mount Ayr celebrated her 98th birthday July 2 and a reception was held for her the day before at the Neighborhood Center here. She was born in Riley township in Ringgold county in 1879 and still lives independently in an apartment at 406 1/2 W. Monroe here. Asked if she was planning on making 100, she said, "I just live one day at a time. If I make it to 100, okay. If I don't make it, okay. You can't imagine the changes that have taken place." Mrs. PATRICK has five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A Mount Ayr student will participated in a research study of Estes Park, CO this summer as part of a summer term program through Graceland College in Lamoni. Robyne SMITH, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert SMITH of Mount Ayr, will be one of 17 students participating in the study from August 4 to August 30.
