Two horses, owned by Gene LARSON, which are smart enough to open gates with their noses, were responsible for a car
accident, which happened Friday about 8:30 p.m. in front of the LARSON farm four miles north of Mount Ayr on Highway 169.
Lawrence JOHNSON, who was en route to his home in Tingley from Mount Ayr, met the horses on the highway. He swerved his
car enough to miss the first horse but was less fortunate with the second and struck it. The animal, a favorite of the
owner's twin sons, suffered fractures of its hind legs and later had to be killed. The accident caused several hundred
dollars damage to the front of the JOHNSON car, which had to be towed to a garage.
