Twenty-six young men and women, who constitute the upper 20 percent of the 1964 senior class of the Mount Ayr Community high school were honored Monday night at the annual scholarship banquet, sponsored by the local branch of the American Association of University Women. The honorees were Beverly MERRITT, Karen REASONER, Connie RICHARDS, Pat JEANES, Charlene CALDWELL, Jeani BASTOW, Connie BETHARDS, Camille LAWHEAD, Connie MAIN, Marie ANGUS, Marvin GREGG, Elvin MERCER, Eugene RICKER, Raymond SHIELDS, Lynda GERINGER, Mary RUSH, Marie EURITT, Lynne WION, Susan HENDERSON, Connie PERLENFEIN, Maurinen ROGERS, Rhonda CLYMER, Phil GERARD, John HOFFMAN, John MAIN and Martha CARR.

Carl G. RIGGS was elected president of the Tingley State Savings Bank during the annual meeting held Tuesday evening. Other officers elected were Wayne A. OVERHOLTZER, vice president; Margaret EIGHME, cashier; Harold GROUT, assistant cashier, and Mrs. Harold BROWN, bookkeeper. Members of the board, other than RIGGS, BRECKENRIDGE [should be EIGHME ?] and OVERHOLTZER are Ernest BASTOW and H. J. MORRISON.

J. W. (Bill) EGLY, 39, a well-known RInggold county farmer, announces his candidacy for the Republican nomination for sheriff of Ringgold County at the primary election June 1. Mr. EGLY, who owns 85 acres of land, operates an additional 125 acres in Athens and Poe Townships.

Republican delegates from Ringgold county to the state presidential convention to be held April 22 in Des Moines were elected during the county convention held Friday morning in Mount Ayr. They are Jack ELLIOTT of Benton, chairman of the Ringgold County Republican Central Committee; Mrs. Helen GALBRAITH and Lester SICKELS of Kellerton; John BOYD of Tingley; Virgil BARNES of Lamoni, and L. W. GROSS, Eldon MAIN, Lyle DUNLANY, Don NARIGON, Hiram MILLSAP, J. M. ANDERSON, Mrs. Bill HAROVER and Mrs. Clyde LESAN of Mount Ayr.

For the second consecutive year, Kathy GREENLAND was adjudged first place winner in the Ringgold County spelling contest held Saturday afternoon in Mount Ayr. Second place honors were awarded Larry HUNTER.

The formal announcement of L. W. (Joe) GROSS as a candidate for the office of county auditor, subject to the will of the Republican voters at the primary election on June 1, 1964, appeared in this issue of the Record-News.

Joseph Murray SHAHA made his formal announcement as a candidate for the office of county auditor on the Democratic ticket.

This issue of the Record-News carried the formal announcement of Earl WHEELEN of Benton township as a Democrat candidate for the office of member of the board of supervivors, term commencing January 1, 1965.

The residence property and five and one-half acres of land owned by the late Noah SALTZMANS, and located on east Mount Ayr on Highway 169, was sold last week by their daughter, Mrs. Georgia DRAKE, to Dr. and Mrs. Max G. POOL, of Mount Ayr. The consideration was $15,000.
