The military merit medal and gallantry cross with palms has been awarded posthumously to Pfc. Charles E. Sissel, Ringgold county's first fatality in the Vietnam conflict.
Winner of the home entertainment center (25-inch TV set, stereo record player and AM-FM radio) valued at $1,195, the top prize offered by the Mount Ayr Community Jaycees during their annual three-day Frontier days
celebration is Dean Jackson, of Monroe township.
Announcement was made this week of an additon of a new partner in a Mount Ayr business. Dean Fink, 30, of Greenfield, has purchased part interest in Bastow Feed and Grain and will assume the position of manager.
As a particularly bewildered group of freshmen trooped resignedly into the building to embark on high school careers, members were greeted by a large, black and white sign bearing the laconic, tongue-in-cheek message,
"Welcome, Students!"
Kenny Markley won his second consecutive Mount Ayr Country Club title Sunday as he shot a 104 over the 27-hole round.
