RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, September 7, 1961

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Following three days of rainfall, ideal weather conditions prevailed Tuesday for the annual meeting of Rideta Electric Cooperative, which was attended by between 900 and 1,000 members. The meeting, held in a big tent on the fairgrounds north of Mount Ayr, included reports of C.C. BRIMMER, president; John IRVING, secretary and treasurer, and Eldon MAIN, manager.

The course record of 32 strokes at the Mount Ayr Golf Club was tied Saturday by Jack COATES, who was playing with Ken WILSON, Joe PLACE, Leo HACKER and Don RICHMOND. COATES managed the four under the 36 par for the course by scoring one under par on four holes and with par on the others. COATES now shares the course record with Royce DAVIS, Gregg WOOD, Japp and Jack DALBEY and Ronnie BALDNER.

Harold STAMPER of Pueblo, CO suffered leg wounds when shot with a .22-caliber revolver during a recent holdup of a store in Pueblo. STAMPER, department manager for automotive accessories of the Pueblo Montgomery Ward Store, was alone in the E-Z Shop Food Store, where he had spare-time employment, when two masked men made their entrance about 10 p.m. at gunpoint, one of the bandits ordered STAMPER to open the cash register. When the bandit saw him touch a button, designed to send an alarm of trouble to other stores, he shot into the floor and told him to "hurryup." "You're not going to shoot," STAMPER told him. "That's just a cap pistol." That was when the gunman aimed and fired. The slug from the revolver passed through the fleshy part of the left leg, between the knee and thigh, without striking any bones. STAMPER is the son of Mrs. Blanche STAMPER of this city.

Neighbors and relatives went Friday afternoon to the Lial SALTZMEN farm and hauled and stacked bales of hay for Mr. SALTZMAN, who is unable to do his farm work because of recent surgery.
