Memories of the Hatcher Players were the topic of interest at the Ringgold County Historical Society meeting Saturday
evening in the country schoolhouse at the Pioneer Museum. Paulyne MEADOWS of Kellerton remembered when the drama group
had headquarters at Kellerton. This traveling group of players were very popular in the 1920's and 1930's when they would
come to the local towns and pitch their tents for a two- or three-day run.
Hawkeye Bank & Trust has announced the hiring of Dave GORLEY as new loan officer and assistant vice-president effective
May 4.
Three juniors and two seniors were inducted into the Mount Ayr chapter of the National Honor Society on April 29. The
juniors were Leslie BARKER, Emily McALEXANDER and Purvi PATEL; and the seniors were Angie SMITH and Angie THOMAS.
A Mount Ayr golfer shot a hole in one Saturday, May 2, on the Mount Ayr Golf and County Club course. Calvin ADAMS of
Mount Ayr shot a hole in one on hole number eight, the same hole on which he shot a hole in one in 1979. He was playing
with his son, Steve ADAMS of Des Moines, and Joe SNETHEN, Tom GREENE and Rodger CANNON.
The recent long stretch in Mercy Hospital in Des Moines for Jim ENGLAND of Tingley, who had heart surgery there, was
broken by at least one out of the ordinary occurrence. While ENGLAND was in intensive care at the hospital, former Arizona
Governor Bruce BOBBITT, Democrat candidate seeking the nomination for president of the United States, made a brief visit
to his room.
Two Mount Ayr girls are near the top of their events in the high school rodeo circuit following competition at Lamoni
last weekend. Shelly TAYLOR won the barrel racing event both days and came home with a nice trophy buckle. These wins
moved her into the lead for the state barrel racing championship. Jill TAYLOR placed second both days in the pole bending
competition. After these two placings, she is currently second in the state in the pole bending competition. The TAYLORS
are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Steve TAYLOR of Mount Ayr.
