RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, June 07, 1962

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Grade averages were so close that two valedictorians and two salutatorians were selected this year from the graduating class of the Mount Ayr Community high school. The valedictorians are two young men, Gary McDOWELL and Jim DENHART. The salutatorians are Ruth PETERSEN and Nancy NICHOLS.

Of unusual interest is the fact that three Mount Ayr boys, who started and completed 13 years of education in the local school together, received degrees from the same college on May 25. They are Ronald E. CROSS, Philip L. STONE and Richard E. STUCK, who were awarded bachelor of science in education degrees from the Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, MO. They are the sons of Mr. and Ms. Ames CROSS, Mrs. Lee STONE and Mr. and Mrs. Walter STUCK, all of this city, and graduates of the Mount Ayr high school with the class of 1958. CROSS has accepted employment as an accountant with Arthur ANDERSON in Kansas City, MO; STONE will teach history and government this fall in the Ogden schools, and STUCK will be a mathematics instructor in the Council Bluffs schools.

Joe BOWEN, who graduated this spring from the Mount Ayr Community high school, received the Iowa Bar Association's American Citizenship Award. The presentation was made by Grant L. HAYES, Mount Ayr attorney.

Four Ringgold county 4-H club members have been selected to appear with the state 4-H chorus on the 4-H conference program to be held June 13 and 14 in Ames. The singers -- Camille LAWHEAD, Maurine ROGERS and Bob ALLEN of Mount Ayr and Dan HOSFIELD of Ellston - will accompany the county 4-H delegates to the conference on June 12.

Lyle FARIS and Mary Sue BASTOW will attend the pre-conference workshop of June 10.
