Glenn LESAN of Rice township was appointed a member of the Ringgold County Board of Review at a meeting of the
Ringgold County Conference Board held Monday at the courthouse in Mount Ayr. He succeeds the late E. M. BRECKENRIDGE and
will serve in the capacity of a licensed real estate broker. Other members of the board are Carl HOGUE of Kellerton,
an experienced builder, and Jerry KLEJCH of Diagonal, a farmer.
A brother and sister combination won the annual Ringgold county spelling contest held Saturday afternoon in Mount Ayr.
Herbie and Jeani BASTOW, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles BASTOW of Mount Ayr, copped all honors in the annual
event, which attracted 14 contestants from seven schools. Herbie, 13 years of age, and Jeani, 14, are seven and eighth
grade students, respectively, in the Mount Ayr Community schools and both received their instruction from Mrs. Mildred
ROGERS.
Thomas H.LIPPOLD, Jr., D.O., announces the opening of his offices, April 11, for the new practice of medicine and
surgery. Dr. LIPPOLD's wife, Joan, and their two children, Sally, 15 months old, and Tommy, four months, will move to
Mount Ayr as soon as living quarters are available.
Lois N. BURCHETT has been selected by Unit 172, American Legion Auxiliary, to represent the service organizatin of Hawkeye
Girls State, which will be held June 19-25, in Cedar Falls. Selected as alternative is Sheryl CAMPBELL. The daughters of
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. BURCHETT and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn CAMPBELL of Mount Ayr, both girls are juniors in the Mount Ayr Community
high school.
Arlen H. HUGHES, young attorney, who recently opened an office for the practice of his profession in Mount Ayr, announces his
candidacy for nomination to the office of county attorney of Ringgold county onthe Democrat ticket. The son of Mr. and
Mrs. R. S. HUGHES of Athens township, Mr. HUGHES was born in 1934. He graduated from Lamoni high school in 1953 and
from Graceland College, Lamoni, in 1955. He continued his education at Drake University in Des Moines, graduated in 1957 from
the College of Fine Arts and recieved his degree from the College of Law in 1959. In June of last year he was
admitted to the Iowa Bar.
Clifford FORCE of Rice township announces his candidacy for the office of state representative from Ringgold county,
subject to the decision of the Democrat voters as expressed inthe primary election to be held June 6.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter PRITCHARD and daughters Cathy and Joni moved their household goods Saturday from Ottumwa to
the Charles SKINNER property, one-half block north of the schoolhouse, which they recently purchased. Mr. PRITCHARD,
who served as assistant manager of the Hy-Vee Food Store in Ottumwa, assumed his duties the first of March as manager of
the Hy-Vee Store in Mount Ayr, where he received his early training.
