Fourth of July celebrations in Ringgold county included the Kellerton Volunteer Fire Department's activities
in Kellerton and Clearfield Lions Club's celebration in Clearfield. After a damp morning, the weather cooperated
well in the afternoon for both celebrations. In Kellerton Tuesday afternoon one of the favorite activities was
the water fights.
Two changes in the telephone communication service for Ringgold county telephone users are set this week. Effective
this week local telephone service for most county residents changes over from GTE to Iowa Telecom, a new
Iowa-based telephone company. Effective Sunday, July 9, the central Iowa region now served by the 515 area code for
long distance calling will be split into two area codes -- with Ringgold county not having a 64 prefix instead of
515.
When the Mount Ayr alumni banquet was held recently, there were 24 members of one local family in attendance.
The FARIS family had 24 family members attending, including 15 graduates of Mount Ayr Community high school.
Ringgold county board of supervisors finalized the enterprise commission during their regular sessions June 27-29. In early
May, Joe ROUTH, administrator of Clearview Homes, asked the board to set up an enterprise zone in Ringgold county.
He began construction on an assisted living facility connected to the existing nursing home in April.
Julie ROUDYBUSH, Grand Worth Advisor, of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls in Iowa and Minnesota,
presided at the "Dream for the Future" 75th Anniversay Session of the Grand Assembly on June 15-18, held at the
Sullivan Brothers Convention Center in Waterloo. Amy HYNDEN served as Grand Patriotism and Amber SHIELDS
served at Bowties Reporter.
