Two Mount Ayr residents were injured in a car-tractor collision, which happened Wednesday afternoon of last week, two
and one-half miles south of Redding on Highway 169. Sam OSBORN, Grant City, MO, businessman, suffered facial cuts,
and Mrs. OSBORN, operator of Iris' Beauty Shop in Mount Ayr, received multiple facial and body lacerations and
contusions, when their car struck a tractor driven by Jerry HIATT of Redding. Mr. OSBORN was treated at the Ringgold
County Hospital and released, while Mrs. OSBORN remains a patient in the hospital.
Mount Ayr golfers brought home five trophies from the Grant City Open Golf Tournament Sunday. Lyle DULANY won in A flight,
Ken WILSON in B, J. N. CHICKEN in D, Jack COATES in E and Bob ROE in G. Raymond STEPHENS won the tournament with a 61.
Othel RICHARDS, former Kellerton vocational agriculture instructor, was the runner-up with a 67. Other Mount Ayr golfers
entered were Bill FRENCH, Jack ELLIOTT, Keith WALTERS, Laurance BISHOP, Keith COLE, Nick DUROS, Bill MONAGHAN, Chuck BRABY,
Robert RICHARDS, Gary McCULLOUGH and Elmo ROE.
Good neighbors have performed two more acts of kindness for W. H. (Mike) MORGAN, at his farm in Rice township. Mr. MORGAN
is convalescing from recent surgery.
Funeral services for Dr. Irvin Cecil BROWN were held June 24 from the Universalist National Memorial Church in
Washington, D. C. Dr. BROWN, a former chemist with the Agricultural Research Service and geology instructor at the
University of Maryland, died suddenly June 21 in Frederick, MD. He was 65 years of age. Born near Tingley, he was the
son of the late Mr. and Mrs. F. F. BROWN.
Carl F. PETERSEN, secretary of the Ringgold Mutual Insurance Association at Mount Ayr, Wednesday was re-elected to the
board of directors of Farmers Mutual Reinsurance Company of Grinnell, as the organization concluded its 53rd annual
meeting on the Grinnell College campus. Ringgold Mutual Insurance Association of Mount Ayr was one of 17 farm mutual
insurance associations receiving certificates of recognition for notable, increase in business during 1960 as Farmers
Mutual Reinsurance Company of Grinnell. The association was cited for having 1960 gains exceeding 10 percent of its
volume. Ringgold Mutual had again of 12.6 percent to rank fourth among member county mutuals in Iowa.
