John D. WARIN of Maloy was re-elected president of the Ringgold County Fair Association during the annual
meeting of directors held Monday afternoon in the assembly room of the courthouse in Mount Ayr.
Carl G. RIGGS of Tingley was elected vice-president to foll the vacancy in the office. Merritt TRIGGS of
Washington township was elected secretary and treasurer to succeed W.T. TIMBY, who was not a candidate to
succeed himself on account of ill health.
Betty WALLACE of Benton is included among approximately 200 students at the State University of Iowa in Iowa
City, who are members of the Oratorio Chorus, one of the university's major choral organizations. Miss WALLACE,
daughter of Chester WALLACE of Benton, is a sophomore in the College of Fine Arts at the university.
Velma FINCH and Richard PRENTIS were elected worthy matron and worthy patron of Mount Ayr Chapter No. 356,
Order of the Eastern Star. They will assume their duties on January 1, 1963.
Thirty-six friends and neighbors gathered November 26 at the Milo ALLEN farm with pickers, wagons, elevators
and trucks and before noon had harvested and cribbed about 40 ares of corn for Mr. and Mrs. ALLEN, the latter
of whom has been ill.
Kathryn McCREARY, freshman at Iowa State University in Ames, was included among the singers who provided music
for the traditional Christmas tree lighting ceremonies observed last evening at the university. Miss McCREARY
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. K. McCREARY of Mount Ayr.
A 1955 Ford, driven by Ted Merl McWILLIAMS, 18, of Kellerton was completely demolished in a one-car accident,
which happened Sunday afternoon about 3:30 p.m. Luckily, the six occupants of the car -- Mr. and Mrs. McWILLIAMS
and baby and Mr. and Mrs. Earl BRINER and baby -- escaped injury.
Stewart V. ELLISON returned to-day (Thursday) to his home in Poe township from the Ringgold County Hospital,
where he had been a patient since Saturday while convalescing from injuries received in a tractor accident.
The accident happened about 9:30 a.m. while ELLISON was digging dirt to fill in muskrat holes near a pond on
the farm, four miles south and two miles east of Mount Ayr. The tractor he was riding tipped and threw him 10
feet into the pond. The tractor overturned and the axle struck Ellison in the chest. Although his left leg was
pinned by the tractor, he managed to keep his head and chest above the water, which was about three and
one-half feet deep.
