"Arithmetic: An Introduction to Mathematics" written by Dr. L. Clark LAY of Pasadena, CA has just been delivered from the
MacMillan Publishing House in New York for use in the remedial math course he teaches at Orange County State College
in Fullerton, CA. Dr. LAY is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer LAY of this city and a grduate of the Mount Ayr high
school with the class of 1925.
Rupert JOHNSTON has purchased the interests of his brother, Raymond D. JOHNSTON, and Howard RICE in the J. & R.
Implement Company in Mount Ayr. He will operate the business under the name of the JOHNSTON Tractor and Implement
Company.
The Supreme Court of Iowa Tuesday affirmed the decision of the Ringgold county district court in the well known
telephone suit over control of the Ringgold County Mutual Telephone Company in Mount Ayr. The 8-0 decision of the
high court opens theway for the transfer of shares of stock purchased at $200 each to LeRoy CARLSON, Bertel T.
MALMQUIST and Perry D. WOODWARD, plaintiffs, and granting of full control of the company, which was operated in
Mount Ayr since 1917.
One hundred and fifty-six of the 358 students in the Mount Ayr community high school had perfect attendance records
for the third nine weeks of school. The sophomores established the best record with 48 of its 93 members, or 52 percent,
having a perfect attendance.
Open house will be observed Saturday and Sunday, April 8 and 9, at the new Clearview Nursing Home in Clearfield. It is
southwest Iowa's first all-electric nursing home. Mr. and Mrs. Paul VARNER and Mr. and Mrs. Richard ROUTH will be in
charge of the new service.
