RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, January 03, 1917

by Chanse Hall, Mount Ayr Record-News

The new $25,000 school building, recently completed in the Benton Independent School District, was dedicated with appropriate services on December 22. Four teachers are employed and the enrollment at present is 130. Between 15 and 16 sections of territory are served by the school. The school board is composed of S. S. Hall, Frank Rychnovsky, D. A. Vaughn, Thomas Haley and Charles Nickles. S. S. Hall is president of the board; W. S. Monger, secretary; and George Bartels, treasurer.

Glen Hammers, who has been employed at the depot, went this morning to Redding where he will work for the Bell Telephone Company.

Pearl Robinson, of this city, has been elected librarian of the Bedford public library. A new Carnegie library building was recently completed in Beford and is soon to be dedicated. Miss Robinson served as librarian in Mount Ayr for about a year.

Several changes took place at the courthouse yesterday as a result of the November election. Frank Vorhies retired as a member of the board and was succeeded by Thomas Bender. E. E. Cornwall succeeds T. W. Napier as county auditor; R. A. Lawhead turned over the supervision of the treasurer's office to Earle K. Allyn; Clerk of the Courts J. S. Tyrrel was succeeded by W. M. McCandless and Frank Lewis became county attorney to succeed George L. Bartow.

KELLERTON - George Stout has purchased the seed house of C. Raye Moore and will take possession at once.

BIRTHS

  • KELLERTON - Mr. and Mrs. Will Doser are rejoicing over the arrival of a fine son on December 30.
  • Word has been received of the birth of a daugher, Anna Laura, at the B. H. Bashear home in Fort Collins, CO, on December 16. Mrs. Bashear will be remembered as Selma Patrick. This brings our townspeople, W. H. Patrick and wife, in line as grandparents for the first time.
