Camille JACKSON of Kellerton will be the new superintendent of the Clearfield Community school district for the 2000-01
school year. JACKSON, who was the elementary principal at the Grand Valley Community school district before its closing,
has worked for the Green Valley Area Education Agency in Creston most recently.
Vernadette LANTZ, resident, and Kay WELLING, medical aide, are celebrating 25 years with Mount Ayr Health Care Center. LANTZ
and WELLING were both present when Mount Ayr Health Care Center opened its doors on january 26, 1975. LANTZ was a resident
at Sunny Slope north of town until owner Joe GROSE moved the facility to Mount Ayr. She was a telephone operator in
Beasonsfield before the dial phones came along. Later, she worked in people's home taking care of the elderly. WELLING
started as a nurse's aid and is now a medical aide, where she does physical therapy. Bob and Marlene HINZ took over at Mount Ayr
Health Care in May 1989.
The Mount Ayr Community high school quiz bowl team won the Pride of Iowa conference championship last week. Team members
included senior Morgan DREDGE, juniors Amy HYNEK, Janice WEDDLE and Elijah TERRELL, sophomore Sean KILGORE and freshman
Clara TERRELL.
The Teen Center business challenge raised $22,110 for the endowment fund for Upper Limits, the Ringgold county teen
center. Local businesses and groups donated $11,055 which was matched by the Dekko Foundation for the total going to
the endowment fund.
Amber TAYLOR of Mount Ayr was crowned Ringgold county Beef Queen for 2000 at the recent banquet of the Ringgold County
Cattlemen and CattleWomen. Crowning TAYLOR was 1999 Beef Queen Julie MORGAN.
