New officers for the Mount Ayr Golf and Country Club were elected Saturday night at the annual meeting of the organization.
Heading the club for the coming year will be Bill WARIN, president; Richard SWEET, vice-president; Pam CROSS, secretary;
and, Patti JONES, treasurer. Richard SWEET and Wendell JACKSON were elected to the board of directors. Other board members
are Bill WARIN, Pam CROSS, Craig ELLIOTT, Cecil DOLECHECK and Judy DREDGE.
Mrs. Mary CAVIN of rural route Blockton has been appointed as Ringgold County volunteer coordinator for the county's
Department of Social Services volunteer committee.
A former Ringgold countian, Jane KINNE SKILLICORN of Freehold, N. J. has completed work at Keane College in New Jersey for
a master's degree in speech pathology and audiology.
A sports complex in downtown Tingley is nearing completion. Residents will be able to enjoy a tennis court, shuffle board
court, a basketball goal and a horsehoe pitching area. Arrangements can also be made to play volleyball.
L. W. (Joe) GROSS, a Mount Ayr Republican, announced today that he will seek election to the Iowa House from
District 94.
Mount Ayr volunteer firemen were called to the south elevator of Iowa Grain in Mount Ayr when a Bobcat, which had just
been used, smoked as dust settled on a hot exhaust. This happened last Friday afternoon and there was no fire or damage
reported.
Five shots were fired at the Elmer BAKER home at the northeast edge of Mount Ayr at 8:30 p.m. Saturday night, March 29,
according to investigating Ringold county sheriff's personnel. The family, which includes Mr. and Mrs. BAKER and their
daughter and two sons, were at home at the time. All the shots went into the house and became imbedded in the woodwork
and walls. There were no injuries. Shots came from a .45 caliber automatic, officials said.
The Gene KLOMMHAS family of rural Ellston arrived home Monday afternoon (March 31) to find their 46 by 40 foot barn had
been destroyed by fire. Tingley firemen, who, with the Union township fire department, battled the blaze, said the fire
was discovered when Mount Ayr Community school bus driver, Mrs. Robert (Lois) ENGLAND of rural Mount Ayr, went by.
