On account of a number of students of Ames college enlisting, the faculty has decided to practically close the college and give the young men a chance to go home and enlist in food production. Their grades will be given them just the same as if they college had not closed. Harry Grace and Watson Beatty of our community, who have been attending Ames college, have returned to their homes.

A new cleaning, pressing and tailoring shop has been started, the proprietor being O. M. Johnson.

William Belvel, of Kellerton, has leased the C. O. Fuller barbershop in this city.

Edna Wright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Wright, of this city, has recently taken a position as stenographer for Bradstreet in their Des Moines office.

Clyde Cowell has just completed a new hollow tiled building south of the bank, which he will occupy as a barbershop.

George Defenbaugh purchased last week from H. M. Miller, administrator of the John Roberts Estate, the house moving outfit belonging to the estate, and is now ready for engagements to move houses.

BEACONSFIELD - Laura Moffett was compelled to resign her work as teacher in our schools on account of failing health. Hazel Moore will finish the term.

DIAGONAL - Frank Evans, who has been employed in the Williams Garage for over a year, has resigned his position and has accepted a positing as special trouble man with the J. I. Case company. They will leave Diagonal at once.

MALOY - Mr. and Mrs. John Higgins are the proud parents of a baby boy, born April 23.
