Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Two youths, Arlen Frank JAROS, 16, and Gerald LEWANDOWSKI, 17, of Minneapolis, MN, were arrested Monday in Saint Joseph, MO, in a car which had been stolen Saturday night in Mount Ayr. The car, a 1959 Dodge, owned by the Grand River Limestone Co., was recovered undamaged. The youths were in the car, one of whom was asleep in the back seat, when apprehended by officers.

H. Don SMITH, senior of Mount Ayr Community high school, won first place honors in the fifthe district Iowa High School Oratorical Contest held Tuesday night in Oskaloosa. Don, sponsored by Ringgold Post 172, American Legion, received $10 in cash and a gold medal, presented by Ed NORD, fifth district commander of the American Legion. With his speech on "Our Living Constitution," he will represent the district in the state contest to be held March 17 in Cedar Rapids. Don was accompanied to Oskaloosa by his speech instructor John WERNER.

X. T. PRENTIS, state senator from the fifth district, was selected by Lt. Gov. William MOOTY as one of 13 members of the senate's Sifting Committee. Mr. PRENTIS has previously served in that capacity.

William C. (Bill) REED, senior in the Mount Ayr Community high school, who plans to enter the State University of Iowa in Iowa City next fall, has been chosen one of the new students to be granted honors status. REED is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell REED of this city. To date, three seniors of the Mount Ayr Community high school have been granted honors status. They are Betty WALLACE, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester WALLACE of Benton; Richard WAUGH, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence WAUGH of Redding; and Bill REED.

Just before recess of the Iowa legislature, Lester SICKELS, state representative from Ringgold county, was named by Speaker of the House Henry NELSON as a member of the steering committee.
