D. Reed KLINE of Jefferson has arrived in Mount Ayr to serve as interim manager of the Rideta Electric Cooperative until a full-time manager can be hired. The post was left vacant following the resignation of Larry HOPKEY, who has moved to Mount Pleasant, where he will manage an electric cooperative there effective January 1, 1989. KLINE also will assit in the process of acquiring a new local REC manager.

Judy CROSS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mac CROSS of Mount Ayr and a senior at Mount Ayr Community school, was installed as worthy advisor of the Mount Ayr Assembly International Order of Rainbow for Girls, during a special meeting held Sunday afternoon, Jan. 29, in the Masonic Temple.

A Mount Ayr student is among 60 students from Iowa State University in Ames named to the 1989 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. Stacy CUNNING of Mount Ayr was one of the students awarded with the honor this year after being selected as national outstanding campus leaders.

A Mount Ayr student qualified for the state Iowa Music Teachers Associaton piano contest at district auditions held at Graceland College in Lamoni Saturday, Jan. 28. Nathan SMITH, son of Alan and Valle SMITH of Mount Ayr, received the top ranking in Level C for students 12 to 13 years of age. He will advance to the state auditions in early March. This is the second time that SMITH has won his level at district auditions. He was an alternate in Level C last year.

Mount Ayr Community Raiderette guard Dawn HUFF was featured in an article about the Raiderette basketball squad in the Omaha World-Herald this week. Coach Doug McKERN is quoted as saying that HUFF is the best guard he's worked with in 15 years of basketball coaching. The Raideretts are rated seventh in the World-Herald southwest Iowa rankings. HUFF is averaging 6.9 rebounds a game and had collected 58 steals and blocked 42 shots going into the I-35 game Friday.
