Place's Discount Center opened officially Wednesday morning, marking another expansion in the retail base
for Mount Ayr. The company has been a part of the community for 49 years, now in its third location.
When Joe GROSS retired Dec. 31, 1995 from the Iowa Republican State Central Committee, he was left with
memories of almost 18 years of service in that capacity as well as one term as state representative and
a large contribution to Ringgold County Republican activities.
Kenny HEBENSPERGER, 67, of Mount Ayr, was featured in a Sunday edition of the Des Moines Register in
connection with his receiving a "HeartMate." HEBENSPERGER has been on a waiting list for a heart transplant
since August. Before checking into Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines over a month ago, his wife,
Sherry, says he was so weak that his kidneys and liver were damaged and he could barely walk. The article
explained, "No longer able to wait for a donor heart, doctors at the Iowa Heart Center inserted a new kind of
blood pump into HEBENSPERGER'S abdomen to save his life."
