Grand Valley Community district voters gave an overwhelming "no" vote to a proposed enrichment tax levy for the
school district in an election held Tuesday. According to results from Decatur county auditor Douglas AKERS, the vote
was 225 against the proposal and 138 favoring the proposal, or 61 percent of those voting casting votes against the
measure.
Joan WALTERS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis WALTERS of Beaconsfield and a senior at Mount Ayr Community high school,
has been named as the winner of the Daughters of the American Revolution citizenship award for the Mount Ayr
Community school and was chosen over four other area winners to go on to district competition.
Residents of the Clearfield Community and Diagonal Community school districts are being asked if they want to expand
academic program sharing for the 1984-85 school year in a survey being circulated in both districts. This year the
combined seventh grades from both districts are attending classes at Diagonal while the combined eighth grades from
both districts are attending classes at Clearfield. Keeping the present program of sharing is one option.
A new postmaster has been named at Diagonal recently. Gail HOOD, an employee of the United States Postal Service in
Creston, has been promoted to the position. HOOd joined the mail service in Creston in November 1974.

Exhibit, sponsored by Eastman Kodak Company. He is the son of Kenneth and Donna WALTER. WALTER'S exhibit print features
his little brother "trying to help."
A Grand River student at Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo has helped the school's livestock judging team
tak seventh and ninth places at two recent national contests. Ed HEWLETT of Grand River placed fifth in the hog
judging and sixth high overall in individual competition to help the team.
