Michael Pren Son was born Feburay 7, 1952, the son of Lloyd Jr. and Virginia (Barnes) Son. His younger years were spent in and near Grant City, Missouri. In August of 1960, his mother married Joseph W. Seaton of Delphos, Iowa. The family moved to the family farm located in rural Delphos. Mike graduated from Mount Ayr Community High School with the Class of 1970. Upon graduation he enlisted with the U.S. Coast Guard and served during the Vietnam War.

Upon completion of his tour of duty, Ensign Son died as the result of a car accident the same day of his discharge, June 19, 1973. He was on his way home when the accident occurred.

He was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa, and later re-interred at Miller Cemetery, which is located two miles southwest of Denver, Worth County, Missouri, on the 'C' Road and county Road 188 at the Gentry and Worth County line.
