ROBERT EDWARD "BOBBY" SHAY
Robert Edward "Bobby" SHAY, son of Robert T. and Norma SHAY, was drafted into the U.S. Army on January 24, 1968, and went to
basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas. He left for Vietnam on his birthday, July 4, 1968, and was assigned to the 109th
Quartermaster Company Air Support Division bsed at Cam Rahn Bay. Here Bobby was qualified serving on amny supply air drop
missions. In Vietnam, Bobby earned the National Defense Service Medal, two overseas bars, the Vietnam Service Medal, marksman
(M-14) Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Purple Heart. The Purple Heart was awarded for wrist and hand wounds Bobby
suffered while on an air supply flight of October 13, 1968. Bobby returned stateside on his birthday July 4, 1969 and was
attached to a unit at Fort Jackson, South Carolina until his honorable discharge October 31, 1969. He had earned the rank
of Sp/4.
