THE GERLOFF &ROMKEE FAMILIES
CHRISTIAN and DENA (SANDVOSS) GERLOFF
Christian GERLOFF was born on January 29, 1819, Hanover, Niedersachsen, Germany.
He departed
from Bremen, Germany and arrived in Philadelphia on May 23, 1843. Christian married
Deana SANDVOSS in December of 1846. The couple resided at Green Bay, Lee County, Iowa,
before moving to Tingley, Ringgold County, Iowa. Christian died at Tingley on March 31,
1896, at the age of 77 years. Deana (SANDVOSS) GERLOFF was born May 7, 1827, Burnswick, Neidersachsen, Germany, and died
at age 72 on March 3, 1900, Tingley, Ringgold County, Iowa. Christian and Deana were
the parents of three children:
Henry GERLOFF (1848-1915)
Cahta "Katie" (GERLOFF) ROMKEE (1851-1888)
Charles GERLOFF
(1853-1918).
THE ROMKEES

Catha "Katie" (GERLOFF) ROMKEE was born
May 4, 1850, Fort Madison, Lee County, Iowa, the daughter of Christian and Dena (SANDVOSS) GERLOFF. She
died at age 36 on March 24, 1888, and was interred at Tingley Cemetery.
William Ernst ROMKEE, the son of Heinrich F. ROEMBKE (1813-?) and Christine W. (KLEINSCHMIDT) ROEMBKE (1818-?),
was born was born in Windheim,Prussia on December 22, 1845. He died at age 63 on October 23, 1909, Idalia, Colorado.
William and Catha "Katie" GERLOFF married in Ringgold County, Iowa, on December 19, 1870.
