JONES MEDICINE CHEST, KELLERTON, IOWA
James Dowlen JONES in photograph above left &at right, was a doctor and a druggist who owned and operated the
Jones Medicine Chest in Kellerton, Iowa. The
drug store was housed in the center of a large brick building located on the west side of Decatur Street, south of Main Street. [It is believed
that the site was originally known as the JF Mason Store or the FM Rhodes Store, as per page 18 of the Kellerton Centennial book.] After James died in 1935 [interment at Oakland Cemetery near Quincy, Adams County, Iowa], his fourth wife Elizabeth and his daughter
stayed on and ran the store (without drugs and medicines), and,
it is believed that they resided in the back section of
the store. James' daughter,
Kathryn Arabella JONES, graduated from the Kellerton High School.
KATHRYN JONES and ELIZABETH CORBITT JONES
Elizabeth and Kathryn JONES sold the business in April of 1943 to Helen GALBRAITH.
