BEN HILL FAMILY
Ben and Lois HILL and family, Peggy age 3 1/2, Paul age 15 months, and Lois' brother Marvin moved from the
Denver and Allendale, Missouri vicinity to the Maloy area in March 1953.Ben worked as a farm laborer from Wilbur, Bob
and Cleo LYNCH.
Lois' brother Larry joined the family in 1954. He finished eighth grade in Maloy, then graduated from
Mount Ayr High School. Both Marvin and Larry served in the Air Force, Marvin in the Philippines, and Larry in Alaska.
Fron 1957 until 1967, Ben drove a school bus for the Maloy School. In 1967 he began work for the Ringgold County road
crew as a gravel truck driver and the oild distributor oiler main. (He always got as much on him as the road, claims
Lois!) He retired in 1982. Lois worked for the hot lunch program in Maloy from 1957 until the school closed
in 1972. The school underwent many changes during those years. One of particular importance to Lois was in 1968 when they
started serving breakfast as well as hot lunches at school. After Maloy [school] closed, Lois cooked at Mount Ayr until
1975. She then started work at the Ringgold County Hospital in the Dietary Department, where she is still [1987] working.
In 1968 Peggy graduated from high school and enrolled in college at Maryville. After a year and a half she married
John Kenton FANCOLLY from Atlantic. They have three children: two sons, Chris and Travis, and a daughter, Beth Ann. They
live in Omaha. During his
junior year in high school, Paul enlisted in the army where he served for two years. In 1972 he married Jolene THURMAN
from Redding. They have three children: a daughter, Rhoda, and two sons, Tommy and Nathan. They live in Shenandoah
where Paul works as a mechanic and welder for a construction compnay, and Jolene works part-time for the Earl May co.
In 1962 the family began mowing years, raising melons, and truck gardening. They have mowed almost every yard in Maloy,
as well as both cemeteries. In 1971, they purchased property in Redding and presently reside there.
NOTE: Benjamin O. HILL was born on November 8, 1920, and passed away on May 7, 1996.
