DELPHOS TELEPHONE COMPANY
Prior to the arrival of the dial telephone system to Delphos in 1966, there was a central telephone office where
several operators manned the switchboard. There were several households on a party line. To deliver a community
message, the operator would deliver one long ring. When the receivers on the party line had clicked down, the
operator would deliver her message. The telephone office was at one time housed at the Sand Ridge School House. Later
the telephone office was moved to what is now the town hall. Following are some of the telephone operators:
Left to Right: Katie WENDELL, Pauline Bell WHEELEN, Leona SHAUGHNESSY
Mrs. Ruth SAVILLE and Tammy, last operator before dial service
