THE WEEDA FAMILY
Arie and Ellen Weeda
Ellen Van VLIET was born June 22, 1851 in Holland. Arie WEEDA was born November 23, 1851 in Holland. They were both
three-years-old when their parents came to America and settled on farms near Pella, Iowa. Ellen had one brother, Gysbert.
Arie had one sister, Johanna. On March 24, 1871, Ellen and Arie were married at Pella. The WEEDA family moved to Ringgold
County in 1896 and settled on a farm near Tingley. Ellen and Arie moved into town in 1917.
Ellen died February 10th of 1927
in Tingley. Arie died May 31 of 1936.
Arie and Ellen were interred at Tingley Cemetery.
Arie and Ellen were the parents of eleven children.
Dirk "Dick" WEEDA was born on December 5, 1871, Pella, Iowa. He married Kate ROMKEE and they were the parents of
Ira, Emma Mae who the second wife of Clyde William BORRUSCH, William, Irven, Margaret who married Paul McKAY, Elmer,
Wayne, and Allen. Dick and Kate's
grandchildren were Louise WEEDA, Dale WEEDA, Delbert WEEDA, Raymond WEEDA, Twyla (WEEDA) LARISON, Roy WEEDA,
Darlene (McKAY) BOWMAN, Donald McKAY, Richard McKAY, Walter WEEDA, the twins - Wilma (WEEDA) MAY and Lois (WEEDA) WEEKS,
Arnold WEEDA, Dwayne WEEDA, John WEEDA, Rebecca (WEEDA) HEINSEN, Bruce WEEDA, Bennie WEEDA, Virginia (WEEDA) GOODLAXSON, Henry
WEEDA, and Mary WEEDA. Dick and Kate had 42 great-grandchildren.
Dick died in 1956. Kate died in 1961.
They were interred in Tingley Cemetery.

Cornelius "Neal" WEEDA was born on October 24, 1873, Pella, Iowa, and died in 1954. He married Mary HACKERT.
Maggie WEEDA was born on November 25, 1875, Pella, Iowa, and died in August of 1876, Pella, Iowa.
Nellie WEEDA was born on January 2, 1877, Pella, Iowa, and died in January of 1881, Pella, Iowa.
Maggie WEEDA was born on May 11, 1878, Pella, Iowa. She married D. Earl ECKERMAN and they were the parents of
three daughters: Marie E. who married Earl B. TROXELL on May 9, 1923, Ellen B. who married Wayne A. OVERHOLTZER May 16, 1926,
Marguerite J. who married Edwin H. SHERWOOD.
Maggie and Earl's grandchildren were Lyle TROXELL, Margaret (TROXELL) HULL, Joyce (OVERHOLTZER) SCOTT, and Dwayne OVERHOLTZER.
They had sixteen great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.
Maggie died in 1965. Earl died in 1961.
They were interred at Tingley Cemetery.

Gysbert WEEDA was born on January 8, 1880, Pella, Iowa. Gysbert married Mabel RICHARDS and they were the parents of
seven children: Clarence WEEDA who married Thelma on August 27, 1924, Ernest WEEDA, Howard V. WEEDA who married November 28, 1935

Gladys who married Paul EGGLESTON, Paul A. WEEDA, Neal J. WEEDA,
and Lucy who married Dean GARLAND. Gysbert and Mabel's grandchildren were Donald WEEDA, Lloyd WEEDA, Dwayne WEEDA,
Dolores (WEEDA) VANDER BAARD, Deirdre (WEEDA) DAHLBERT, Donna Mae (WEEDA) BUSBY McINTOSH, Shirley (WEEDA) POSLER,
Janice (EGGLESTON)
ENOCKSON, Kenneth WEEDA, Keith WEEDA, Teresa WEEDA, Linda (WEEDA) GRANDFIELD, James B. WEEDA, Phyllis Ann WEEDA, Marsha (WEEDA)
WADDLE, Steven GARLAND, Susan (GARLAND) VIVONE, Dennis GARLAND, Debra (GARLAND) JENSEN, and Jerry GARLAND. Gysbert and
Mabel had thirty-eight great-grandchildren.
Gysbert died July 16, 1955. Mable died March 28, 1940.
They were interred at Tingley Cemetery.

John WEEDA was born on November 18, 1882, Pella, Iowa. John married Bertha HOYT and they were the parents of
Dorothy (WEEDA) ZIESENHENNE RICHARDS. Their grandchildren were Ramona (ZIESENHENNE) GRICE, John ZIESENHENNE, and
Vicky RICHARDS.
Nellie WEEDA was born on February 15, 1885, Pella, Iowa. Nellie married John SHERWOOD and they were the parents of
seven children: Margaret who married John JOHNSON, Edwin SHERWOOD, Everett SHERWOOD, Arlene who married Frank VESELY, Irvin
SHERWOOD, Howard SHERWOOD, and Benjamin SHERWOOD. Nellie and John's grandchildren were Ardith (JOHNSON) EGLESTON,
Earl VESELY, Steven VESELY, Barbara VESELY, Leslie SHERWOOD, David SHERWOOD, Lila (SHERWOOD) PUTNAM, Donna SHERWOOD,
Teresa SHERWOOD, Terry SHERWOOD, Julie SHERWOOD, Troy SHERWOOD, James SHERWOOD, Joyce (SHERWOOD) CHAUNCEY, Jayne (SHERWOOD)
LONGCOR, Mona (SHERWOOD) MASSINGALE, Benjamin SHERWOOD, Sandye (SHERWOOD) ALMOND.
Lawrence R. WEEDA was born on June 29, 1887, Pella, Iowa. Lawrence married Florence OVERHOLTZER and they were the
parents of five children: John Dayle WEEDA, Eleanor F. who married Russell A. SHIELDS on September 14, 1941,
Doris E. who married Myrle A. REASONER, Naomi L. who
married Lawrence R. WILSON on June 24, 1955, and Doyle Lawrence WEEDA who married February 12, 1949
Eva "Carol" LAMOREAUX.
Lawrence and Florence were the grandparents of Ronald A. SHIELDS, Raymond SHIELDS,
Rodney SHIELDS, Annette E. SHIELDS, Robert REASONER, Karen (REASONER) COPE, Cynthis (REASONER) CAVENDER, Kristy WILSON, Diane L.
(WEEDA) SORENSON, Patricia (WEEDA) TINDLE STEVENS, David WEEDA, Danny Lee WEEDA, Linda (WEEDA) SWANSON, and Timothy WEEDA.
Lawrence died in 1967. Florence died in 1975.
They were interrred at Tingley Cemetery.

Peter WEEDA was born May 30, 1889, Pella, Iowa. Peter married Nelle MILLER and they were the parents of
two sons, Miller and Donald. Peter and Nelle's grandchildren were Wendy (WEEDA) LINEER, Kathleen (WEEDA) HANNINGAN,
Donald WEEDA, Randall WEEDA, Judith (WEEDA) CARLSON, Janet (WEEDA) LAWSON.
Nancy WEEDA was born March 7, 1891, Pella, Iowa. Nancy married Charles BORRUSCH and they were the parents of
two daughters:
Alta Marie BORRUSCH and
Charlene who married
Franklin "Frank" NICHOLS on May 10, 1941.
Nancy and Charles' grandchildren were
Charles Dean NICHOLS, Nancy (NICHOLS) WILLEY, and Merry Ann (NICHOLS) SWANK.
Nancy died in 1970. Charles died in 1972.
They were interred at Tingley Cemetery.

Benjamin WEEDA was born June 23, 1894, Pella, Iowa. Benjamin married Grace ENGLAND and they were the parents of
two children: Dorothy who married Eugene WENTWORTH and Lawrence WEEDA. Benjamin and Grace's grandchildren were
Eugene Gibson WENTWORTH, Lawrence WEEDA Jr., Mary Ann (WEEDA) LoSCALZO, and David WEEDA.
Of Arie and Ellen's descendants, seventy resided in Ringgold County with their spouses.
